Footsteps Across the Delta, is a short 4x4 game drive away from Shinde Camp, its sister camp in the Okavango Delta, which is recommended as your base for a 2 or 3 night excursion at Footsteps Camp.
Footsteps specialises in Okavango Delta walking safaris with experienced guides, many of whom grew up in the Okavango Delta. Feeling the African earth under your feet is a very different experience from the non-participatory game drives offered by all other lodges. You never know what animals you might bump into on a walk, and the sounds, smells and sights make your senses come alive.
Footsteps Camp is in an area where permanent water channels are found, although the water level does vary during the year. The Okavango Delta is fed from the Okavango River, which originates far away in the highlands of Angola.
It may rain in Angola in February, but the floodwaters don't reach Botswana until about May. At that time the seasonal floodplains become swamped and small palm tree islands form in between large lagoons. Footsteps is in the fortunate position of being close to both permanent water and dry land, thereby offering the best of both worlds in a Botswana safari.
